History

During the Fourth Age of Aabahran when the armies of Chaos ravaged and corrupted the realm, a small scouting force of the main host of Chaos happened upon a ruined mausoleum which is now known as the Isle of Souls. The force was led by one of the host's countless commanders, one bearing the name of Virigoth. The whole force was lost with exception of this commander who returned alone and changed. His complexion pale and eyes glazed he returned only by virtue of his mount. His mind lost he clutched an ancient executioner blade in his hands, its tip blunt and the blade rusted beyond use. Deemed unfit for battle he was disposed of as the host of chaos moved on. It was said that two nights later a man pale and ghostly bearing great resemblance to the dead commander lured a number of soldiers from the camps with promises of great reward and treasure. They left in the night armed with tools for digging, heading towards the dragon sea never to return. There are many bardic tales as well as stories from weary travellers about that which roams the country sides lurking in its many shadows. These creatures once human gave the ultimate sacrifice to their gods seeking immortality until their bodies crumble to dust thus returning to the Pillar of Souls what they have vowed to replenish time and again.

Still yet, the great Heralds of Aabahran speak of a Shade War that happened eons ago where the only safety from the minions of death was held in the wearing of a rusted Talisman. Alas an ancient prophecy of a great war against the living was foreseen and became a reality where the most revered of the minions of death and chaos were to join together. These minions were called Dreadlords, two of death, two of chaos, and a leader. Flamus the Fire Dreadlord - one chosen of Crypticant, Kentry the Power Dreadlord - one chosen of Virigoth, Malosos the Fear Dreadlord - one chosen of Virigoth, Tetsunai the Shadow Dreadlord - one chosen of Crypticant, and the leader Phaedrous the Fury Dreadlord - chosen of both. These minions called together to destroy the living upon Aabahran as well as to battle the chosen three known as the Theran Winds.

Usual Height

Varied, but human sized.

Hometown

The walking dead swear no allegiance to any single town, though from time to time they have been found living in groups of different sizes.

Religion

Undead are loyal to the powers of Death, following the paths of Necropsy, Scourge, and Cycle which they serve accordingly. As well through their closeness to the Nameless and their god they are bound to these powers through the continuum, a sort of telepathic link.

Physical Features

While the undead race was at one time human, the forms these creatures now walk are many. Zombies, spectres, shades, ghouls and liches are to name but a handful. No one knows truly why the dead take these forms, perhaps something to do with the way they died. Or maybe how the undead god feels they will be more feared but this is only speculation. The touch of the undead is feared above all of the various weapons at its disposal. The intelligence of these creatures ranges from mindless savages to scholars of the mind, however their purpose remains one and the same.

Society

The Undead are part of the Blood Covenant. To help combat the forces of the Light, the Gods of Death agreed that its true armies of undead, vampires, and liches would not raise hand, weapon, or spell against one another. While the vampires hold the lich with respect and consider them equal the lich feel themselves far beyond them, and both agree the undead are the lowest within the continuum. Liches are truly the generals in the armies of the continuum. The lich battle with powerful magics and domination over lesser undead, using them for their dark ambitions. Liches are created from the most powerful Arch-Magi of darkness who are willing to sacrifice mortality for power. Undead are chosen from mortal men and women, as they are the most ambitious of all races, short lived and ever restless to become the best of their respective guilds. As such all humans of any guild who follow the religion of death may attempt to appease their god and prove their devotion in the twisted goals of the destruction of all life upon Aabahran by returning the souls the pyre.

The undead usually are found in solitary groups of one or two wandering darkened roadways or graveyards. Though larger groups are not unheard of either, as well as rumors of entire townships being turned and wandering their streets.

Relationships with Other Races

The undead do not squabble among other members of the Blood Covenant, for the gods of death will not tolerate such as it hinders the progress against the living. The undead see Demons at times as another means to reach their goals. After all, once the torment and suffering the demon causes is complete, in most cases the victim finds themselves imprisoned within the Pillar of Souls. There is no truce drawn between the demon god and the ruler over the Cycle and both have seen their minions shredded by the other on many occasion.

The other races however are seen as mere prey, the undead feed on the very essence of their victims' life force much differently then the vampires, who feed on their blood. Also they in some twisted fashion envy and loath mortals for their liveliness they can never again truly possess.
